travel tuesday (antarctica)

We got back from Antarctica this morning, and I don’t yet have the words to describe it.

Our trip was everything that I hoped it would be, and so much more. I’ve got hundreds of pictures (culled from thousands), thousands of words of stories, and all sorts of advice about how to do it on the (relatively) cheap. But I can’t yet process it.

For today’s travel tuesday, I want to share just one moment.

One moment where a baby penguin jumped on my lap.

In the wild…

In Antarctica…

Where I had to keep pinching myself and asking: “is this real life?”

I hope you enjoy the kitchy animated gif. And I promise, prettier pictures (and video clips!) are on their way.

A word of warning: the scary face in the fourth image is elation. When the baby jumped into my lap I burst into tears, I simply had no other reaction.

For those of you – like me – who generally play by the rules and who are wondering about whether or not this was sketchy of me, you aren’t allowed to get within 5 meters of the animals in Antarctica. But if you sit very still and wait for the curious baby penguins to break the rules, well then you just might be in for a totally kosher treat.

  1. I’m glad you had a blast, I can’t even fathom how a trip to Antarctica would’ve been.

Your penguin photo (love it, by the way) reminds me of Kristen Bell’s video on the Ellen show where she freaked out because her fiance brought a sloth to her birthday party. you have to see it if you haven’t already. :)

    1. I can’t even process it yet! Jon picked out a handful of his faves for FB, but I need a bit more time to let it percolate :)

    1. I couldn’t even deal with it. Seriously. It was the best moment ever. (As you can sort of tell from my scary face).
