Something unique to Buenos Aires is the sheer number of restaurants that offer delivery. From cafes, to local hangouts, to dining establishments – thousands of restaurants in the city will deliver.
Before arriving in BA, I heard about a service called Buenos Aires Delivery, basically an online aggregator of over 300 restaurants. Sound awesome? It is. And to top it off, they’ve got Spanish and English versions of the site. All you need is a bit of time (to chose what delicious food your are going to consume), a cell phone number (a foreign cell phone number will do) and address (a hotel/hostel address is good enough)!
Don’t have very good Spanish? You don’t need to it (for this at least). The site makes it so easy. You even tell the restaurant what bill you are going to pay with, and the delivery guy brings exact change. Now that is service.
Marfa Delivery
Our first try (and to date, only try) was Marfa Delivery. Somewhat of an institution in the expat community, Marfa Delivery is listed in the “Sandwich” category on the site. But it’s also so much more. Salads, wraps, sandwiches, quesadillas, veggie burgers (categorized as “whole wheat sandwiches on the English version of BA Delivery), and delicious mint/basil infused lemonade.
After hearing good things about the veggie burgers (and being a little “meat and cheesed” out from the night before at Calden del Soho) we decided to go with those. The veggie burgers are made out of rice, rolled oats, sesame and a flavour (we tried “Broccoli and Red Pepper” and “Spinach and Carrot”) they are served on a delicious whole wheat bun and topped with lettuce, tomato, a sweet mustard, a pesto, and melted mozzarella. And boy are they ever good.
Are they going to win a healthy eating award? Probably not. But they are relatively cheap, super tasty, easy to order and delivered right to your doorstep within about a half an hour.
But wait, that’s not all: I need to make a wee little shout out to my lemonade. I’m a little picky about my mint-ginger lemonades. What can be the worlds most perfect juice can also go horribly, horribly wrong. bBlue has got a pretty good mint/ginger pomelo-ade, but I find the flavours are a bit too subtle. Last week I tried a mint-ginger lemonade at a Villa Crespo cafe, where the ratio of ginger to anything else was shall we say … over the top … and the big stringy chunks of ginger really took away from the experience. Marfa Delivery’s lemonade? Perfect. I loved it. And it was green, which was kind of fun!
The Bottom Line
Marfa Delivery, order online through BA Delivery, Monday thru Friday 11am-3:30pm and 7pm-11pm
Cheap. Tasty. Easy. There isn’t much more I look for in delivery! Two of us ate for 74 pesos ($17) including delivery (7 pesos – but free to Palermo Hollywood and Las Canitas). But beware, they are closed on weekends.
